A Slight Problem

I'm guilty of keeping many things I buy that are meant for my etsy shop. Sometimes an item I like never even makes it into my shop and sometimes an item I like makes it into my etsy shop and then "accidentally" disappears from my shop.
Currently this vintage leather hand tooled purse resides in my shop. If you like it, I suggest you hurry before I change my mind. Ladies, if you see me on Friday night with this beauty draped across my body, you'll know I got weak.

Change of Season

There are certain things that should be changed with the seasons:
a wardrobe,
blankets on the bed to either usher in the warmer or cooler months
and now my newest favorite obsession...soap.
There are so many sellers on etsy offering handmade soaps, so I would like to share just a few of my favorites with you for the current spring and upcoming summer months
Plumeria Soap by SpaTherapy

Crazy Coconut Soap by DennisAnderson
Pineapple Soap by SweetBody
Coconut Almond Soap by CatalanoSoapCo
Each shop offers samples of their soap at little or no cost, so if you see one you'd like to try, I highly recommend it!

Sleep Tight, Little One

My creative wheels started turning when I stopped by decor8 this afternoon. I just love this time of year because the new spring lines are out everywhere - fashion, bedding, accessories... I was really struck by the use of color by Binth for their new spring line because the colors are so out of the ordinary. And so I got to thinking out of the ordinary! How adorable would a nursery be with this "Numbers" Poster hanging on the wall and this vintage tablecloth in my etsy shop, re-purposed as a baby blanket! Sleep tight, little one.

Fine Details

One of the reasons I love vintage items is because they are a preservation of pieces of the past. Currently listed in my etsy shop is a vintage postcard souvenir folder of some gorgeous illustrations of New Orleans. I was looking through them I wondered what still stands and what has been ravaged by floods.
The ironwork and architecture in these 2 particular illustrations caught my eye - such charm and intricate detail! Perhaps I should add New Orleans to the ever-growing list of places that I need to visit!

Exotic Wildlife

With this combination of Vintage Zoological Postcards from my etsy shop and these Organic Animal Print Jacquard Towels from West Elm, you won't have to leave home to feel like you're in an exotic locale! With the variation of colors in the towels, the postcards would look great framed in a natural wood color (to complement the giraffe towel) or a dark espresso color (to complement the snow leopard towel). Just replace your towels, hang up the postcards and add a few accessories for an instant retreat!

Growing up in the desert Southwest, I have an appreciation for its beauty. These Vintage Postcards with illustrations of the Yucca plant and Saguaro cactus would look simply perfect framed and hung on a wall. These Southwest beauties can be purchased in my etsy shop.

Boutique Baby

A sparkly little gift for a lucky little niece for Christmas. I purchased it from buybumblebeads on etsy and couldn't be more pleased with the outstanding craftsmanship and excellent customer service - thanks Jess! Not only does she make custom bracelets in any size for children, but be sure to check out her proud mama bracelets and her spirit bracelets as well! Is it bad that I want to keep this one for myself? No, I suppose the bad part is that it almost fits!

Creature Comforts

Some of you have asked how I was doing while Sean was out fighting the fires. Let me recount for you...
I arrived at a family member's house a little before midnight the night the fires started, to find 4 cousins and one uncle sound asleep and an aunt that greeted me at the door with open arms. Now, mind you, this house is not far from Ramona and I had seen this same neighborhood get evacuated during the last fire. So with my adrenaline pumping from a quick drive from Arizona to S.D. (at a pace that a cop might frown upon had there been any cops with attention toward anything other than the fires) and nothing to do but worry which made for an interesting night! I watched tv, (flipping from channel to channel) texted friends (admitting that I was safe but still nervous) listened to the radio (in case all the channels on tv could possibly be missing something that I might need to know about!) and laid on the couch. Somewhere about 3:00 in the morning I had to calm my nerves and changed the channel to some strange tv show about bears in the wild. I ended up falling asleep with "one eye open" (to keep an eye on the large hill just outside the back door that seemed just right for a fire to sweep down it) and one ear still listening to the radio and awoke about an hour later to hear a man on the radio with the same name as my husband's. He sounded panicked and frantic and stated his location was near our house and my heart was racing. He said he just barely got out of his house (heart racing faster than ever before now!) ...with his children. I instantly had to stop myself, because we do not have children and I know without a shadow of a doubt that Sean would not panic in such a situation and neither should I at that moment in time. I honestly am not sure if it was a dream/nightmare and my mind was playing tricks on me, or if there really was a man named Sean on the radio, but I knew that I had to control my mind so I would not freak out! It was hard to find things to distract my mind from the fires that night, but one thing I have learned is that it is nice to have some of your own creature comforts with you when in an emergency. And so came the purchase of this adorable bag by babyduckies pictured below. Everything about it says comfort to me. The adorable outer fabric and its coordinating inner fabric are just perfect. They would look adorable all sewn up into a quilt and so now I feel as though I have a little quilt with me. It now holds some essentials - a toothbrush, toothpaste, deoderant and my own soap- and will stay in my truck because this isn't the first emergency we've been caught up in and it probably won't be the last.

Star Jar

How adorable are these folded moravian stars all collected together in an antique ball jar? Each star is fabricated from 4 strips of paper, dipped in paraffin wax, and sprinkled with diamond dust glitter. Simply perfect by themselves or you could even add a small battery powered string of lights inside the jar to give the glitter some extra sparkle for an added twist. And I think they would look darling strung up on a small, white feather tree for a modern take on Christmas. And just look at how perfect the larger star ornaments look strung up outside for a special occasion! Be sure to stop by theStarcraft to view all of her collections as well as the special sale section. Thank you theStarcraft for such inspiring beauties!

If you 'd like to make it yours, you can find it here, in my etsy shop.

Autumnal Colors

As I start to feel a slight cool-down in our weather, I'm reminded that autumn is right around the corner. The cool blue-gray color of the bird on the top branch reminds of a crisp, cool Halloween-type evening where ghoulish colors abound. The warm golden color on the belly of the bird on the bottom branch reminds me of a harvest moon on such a night.
This vintage illustration is available in my etsy shop and would coordinate perfectly with these Chinoiserie Placemats as featured on Hostess with the Mostess.

I couldn't resist

I was on the hunt for the perfect bag for the summer weather, and I couldn't stop until I found one that suited me perfectly. Yellow Fever

According to my posts lately, it may seem as though I'm on an endless vacation living on a kayak (don't worry I've spared you many of the kayak pics we've taken!), but I assure you I've been hard at work and my creative wheels are spinning. To get back into the swing of sewing and get those creative juices flowing even more, I whipped up this little pillow yesterday made from vintage fabric. I know yellow is still hot right now in interior design and the deep navy blue and tan will carry this look over into the fall as well. If you have just the right spot for it in your home, make it yours by visiting my etsy shop where I sell my own handmade and vintage items.

Modern Charm

I have been growing my hair out for about a year now and it's starting to act a little crazy lately. (The "curse" of having curly hair I guess) So lately, I have been trying to decide what fun things I can do with it for the summer. And along comes the perfect headband from Modern Charm! Mendy graciously and generously offered up one for free to me after posting my Turquoise Pillow Cover on her blog. You see, it was a little contest and I am so blog-obsessed lately, that I found my link on her blog and won! I got to pick any one of her headbands, which was very hard to do because they are all so cute, but this one has the perfect colors for me and of course I love the floral print of the fabric. If you'd like to pick one up for yourself, there are dozens of adorable fabrics to choose from. Be sure to check out the Modern Charm Blog for some additional inspiration, and be sure not to miss the adorable apron with the gorgeous yellow birds on it! Thanks again, Mendy!
